Who Are the People in Our Neighborhood?

At New Vistas an important part of our Mission is to create a sense of constructive citizenship, of contributing and giving back to the community in a positive fashion.  Our society is shaped by “good citizens,” those willing to provide a helping hand to those less fortunate.  Many young people in our huge, diverse country don’t have access to quality education.  At NVS we are so fortunate to have bright, hardworking students as well as committed, experienced, talented teachers.  We have much to be thankful for.

Our Annual Serve-A-Thon is October 6.  This is one way (among many during the year) that we reach out to our neighbors in need.  Students spend the day at one of five local non-profits who need volunteers:  The Daily Bread, Jubilee Center, Awareness Garden, Kids’ Haven, and the Boys and Girls Club of Lynchburg.  They experience the lift you feel when you’re able to help others in need.  They get that sense that giving is truly receiving.

We ask families and friends to sponsor students for their work in the serve-a-thon, kind of like sponsoring a person who walks for a cause.  Development Director Lara Jesser-Abell has sent each home a packet of ten letters requesting sponsorship.  Gifts of any size are welcome and appreciated.  If you didn’t get a packet or if you need more letters, please contact Lara at 846-0301, extension 17, or ljesserabell@newvistasschool.org.

PLEASE assist your child in seeking sponsorships for this win-win event.  Our students often speak of the Serve-A-Thon as one of their favorite NVS traditions.  Funds raised by this parent-sponsored event go directly to improving the school and making it more welcoming for our unique students.

Best regards,

Charlotte
